Eugene Mazin (1964-2023)

Eugene Mazin, the original Chief Software Architect of QuickField, passed away on September 8, 2023. Eugene Mazin

Eugene was born in St. Petersburg, Russia on February 25, 1964. After graduation from St. Petersburg Polytechnical Institute he worked with Dr. Dombrovski who suggested an idea of creating a FEA software package which would combine the computational power with the straightforward and simple user interface.
First versions of the software which is now known as QuickField featured the graphical user interface in MS DOS environment on personal computers. It became publicly available in the end of 1980's under the copyright of TOR Cooperative in St. Petersburg, Russia. This project then crossed geographical boundaries and became an international effort. Now it is developed and distributed by a Denmark company Tera Analysis Ltd.

Eventually, Eugene and his family moved to the USA and settled in Los Angeles. Eugene's drive and talent made him a part of many successful software projects, but QuickField always remained his favorite child. Eugene's creativity and vision contributed to making this software unique and competitive with major FEA packages. His mentorship made the QuickField Development team able to accomplish the most challenging tasks of scientific software engineering.

We consider QuickField to be a lasting tribute to our friend and colleague Eugene Mazin and will do everything we can in making it more powerful and easy to use – following the trends started by Eugene.
